Celtic’s official response is that none of this abuse was linked in any way with the parent club, and that the Boys Club was a separate legal entity. Survivors say this denial has added to their trauma and claim this is typical of the club’s attitude: had the parent club listened to the voices of survivors from early on, the abusers’ reign would not have lasted so long.

Gerry McCann, born in Glasgow 1968, was Celtic FC club physio during the 1990’s that left Celtic 6 months before Torbett was sacked for the second time.

Madeline McCann disappeared in May 2007. John Reid who was Home Secretary at the time for the British Government, would have been directly involved with the disappearance of Madeline and is very possible that he covered it up. John Reid then left his post of Home Secretary in June 2007 and became Chairman of Celtic FC.

John Reid, Baron Reid of Cardowan PC (born 8 May 1947) is a British politician. A member of the Labour Party, he has held various Cabinet positions under Prime Minister Tony Blair from 1999 to 2007, lastly as Home Secretary from 2006 to 2007. He retired from frontline politics in 2007 following Gordon Brown's appointment as Prime Minister, taking on a role as the Chairman of Celtic Football Club. After stepping down as an MP in 2010, he was nominated for a life peerage in the Dissolution Honours and elevated to the House of Lords. Reid took a leading role in the campaign for a "No" vote in the 2011 AV referendum, appearing alongside Conservative Prime Minister David Cameron, and also took a leading role in the campaign opposing Scottish independence.

Clubs mark Madeleine's birthday

Relatives of missing Madeleine McCann have joined 60,000 fans at the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Aberdeen to mark her fourth birthday.

Players from both clubs wore yellow wristbands during the game at Celtic Park in Glasgow.

Supporters also held up posters of Madeleine, who is believed to have been abducted in Portugal on 3 May.

Madeleine, from Rothley, Leicestershire, disappeared from her family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, in the Algarve. Her father, Gerry, had worked for Celtic before moving to England.

Hearts players Jose Goncalves and Bruno Aguiar, who are both Portuguese, also issued a joint statement on behalf of their club urging anyone with information to come forward.

Philomena McCann said Madeleine's parents Gerry and Kate had been "incredibly touched" by the gestures.

She said: "The amount of people who turned out in Glasgow was incredible, fantastic to see.

"Even gifts for Madeleine on her return have been given to the family. These have been wonderful gestures and people don't realise what an impact it has on the family. They have been incredibly touched."

The focus is shifting from being a local search for Madeleine to an international child abduction inquiry.

Reports about leads include CCTV footage from a petrol station on the night of Madeleine's disappearance, which is thought to feature two men and a woman driving a car with a British number plate.

TRISH AND SANDY CAMERON (47 and ??) Year 2007
Gerry's sister, Trish Cameron, is nurse from Dumbarton near Glasgow. She said that her brother, Gerry, called her (on May 3rd) "breaking his heart". Mrs Cameron, her husband (Sandy), her mother and Mr and Mrs Healy (Kate's parents) travelled out to Portugal within 1 or 2 days of the disappearance. Trish and Sandy stayed until the end of summer, but Trish returned to Portugal again when news broke that Kate and Gerry were to be re-questioned. Trish accompanied Kate to the PJ headquarters. She continues to look after them in Rothley. Trish and Sandy have one teenage son, Paul.

The Tapas 7 were a group of seven friends who all attended the same school in the Spanish city of León. In 1992, they were all accused of sexually abusing a five-year-old boy. The trial and subsequent media coverage caused a sensation in Spain, and the case became known as the “León sex abuse trial”. The seven friends were all between the ages of 14 and 16 at the time of the alleged abuse. They were all from lower-income families and had known each other since they were very young. The group became known as the “Tapas 7” because they often met up at a tapas bar near their school. During the trial, the prosecution alleged that the seven friends had sexually abused the five-year-old boy on multiple occasions. The defence argued that the boy’s testimony was unreliable and that there was no evidence to support the allegations. After a lengthy trial, the seven friends were acquitted of all charges. The media coverage of the trial was highly sensationalised, and the case caused a great deal of public outcry. The Tapas 7 have since tried to move on with their lives, but the ordeal has had a lasting impact on them. In an interview with The Guardian in 2017, one of the group spoke about the effect the trial had on her life: “It was like being in a horror film. I still have nightmares about it.”

When Madeleine vanished, seven friends from the Tapas Seven went on vacation in Portugal. Every night, they spent time out to dinner with their children, checking in on them in the middle of the night. Matthew Oldfield claims to have seen Robert Murat shortly before the case was revealed. Jane Tanner claims that she saw a man carry a sleeping girl away from the resort. David Payne was the only person who saw Madeleine alive after the McCann family had vanished. The kids were well taken care of as Kate and Gerry McCann played tennis with him. Police spent four years attempting to identify the man who was never located.
